6 Spinal Disorders That Respond Well to Chiropractic

The expertise of McNeil Chiropractic can be used to treat a wide variety of health issues, particularly those that involve the spine(spinal disorders). Many back and neck issues can be corrected by your chiropractor’s ability to adjust your spine. The main advantage of chiropractic care is that it is non-invasive and drug-free, so side effects are minimal.

Here are six spinal disorders that can be helped by chiropractic:

1. Degenerative Disc Disease

A degenerative disc disease usually occurs as people age. Discs between your vertebrae provide cushioning and flexibility to your spine by being relatively soft. It is unfortunately common for discs to wear down over time as a result of years of use and injuries. Eventually, they can wear down, putting pressure on nerves and causing bone-on-bone contact.

2. Herniated Disc

There may be instances in which a disc ruptures, allowing the inner matter to protrude into the spine and place pressure on nerves. A herniated disc is most commonly found in the lower back and neck.

3. Sciatica

Legs are supplied with nerves by the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down to the legs. When the lower back is misaligned or has degenerative disc disease, the nerve may become irritated. It is possible to experience shooting pains, numbness, tingling, dull aching, or other
discomforts due to pressure on the nerve.

4. Whiplash

Typically, whiplash occurs in rear-end car crashes, where a car hits you from behind, whipping your head back and forth. Neck damage can be caused by the force generated by the whipping motion. Stiffness and pain are common symptoms. Whiplash should be treated as soon as possible following an accident.

5. Myofascial Pain

The fascia is the sheath-like material that surrounds your muscles. Adhesions can occur in the fascia due to overuse or injury. In addition to the problem area, myofascial pain can cause discomfort in other parts of the body that you might not expect.

6. Back Sprains and Strains

Spines and backs can be strained or sprained in many ways. A sprain occurs when your ligaments are injured, while a strain occurs when your muscles and/or tendons are injured. Pain and mobility loss can result from either condition.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Depending on the severity of your spinal condition, your chiropractor will suggest different treatment options for you. A few examples are:

Adjustments

Vertebrae can often be realigned to alleviate spinal problems. Spinal conditions and injuries are often caused by vertebral misalignment, in which the bones do not sit properly on top of one another. Your vertebrae are gently aligned with a chiropractic adjustment.

Massage Therapy

Massage can be a great complement to chiropractic adjustments. Relaxing muscles, removing adhesions, and improving mobility can be achieved with this technique. Additionally, it can help your spinal adjustments stay in place as you go about your daily routine.
